Although we are a self referral only service, we recognise the majority of these referrals are guided by professionals. Please see below for the suitability criteria for referral:
Suitable referrals
Clients must be over the age of 16 and registered with a Wakefield GP. We are a primary care talking therapies service, and therefore it is helpful if potential clients are aware of what the service can offer. They should be in a position where they are prepared to engage in talking therapies including groups, workshops, self-help, online support and face to face therapy. We treat the following:
- Depression
- Stress
- Panic (with or without Agoraphobia)
- Phobias
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- OCD
- Low Self Esteem
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Chronic Pain
- Long Term Physical Conditions including Long Covid
- Medically Unexplained Symptoms and somatoform conditions
- Social anxiety
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
- Complex grief
Unsuitable referrals
- Under 16
- Imminent or unstable risk of harm to self or others
- Severe impact on functioning (i.e. unable to attend and commit to regular talking therapy appointments, severe self neglect)
- Psychosis
- Bipolar Disorder
- Eating disorders
- Personality disorders
- Primary problem of substance, alcohol or other addictions
- Already receiving therapy/counselling/support from secondary care
- Significant learning disabilities or cognitive impairment
- Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD) – including multiple childhood trauma or prolongued multiple trauma
- Anger management (where the individual does not accept a cause of anxiety or depression which can be targeted through talking therapies)
- Recent Bereavement
- Relationship counselling
- Behavioural problems such as impulse control issues
